oh... just because.

yes, i know. i'm insufferably adorable.
figured i'd throw up a picture of strat, just because there's never a bad time for a gratuitous kitty picture. you don't need a reason for that, right? and because there's been too much bad kitty news lately (i don't even want to link it here, but those of you in and around the Hub have heard about the crazy mad scientist cat lady, right?), which makes me love him and want to keep him safe all the more.

and because, really, he is adorable when he gets all Buddha-kitty like that.

i love a good rant. by (my) definition, that means taking the dross we all have to deal with, and making it funny. to wit:

I was sorely tempted to say Hey, Ross, I'd have been there by now, but I'm stuck with a cab driver who has less intelligence than most trout I have eaten.

john has been a longtime read a favorite of mine.

he and i have exchanged the occasional note (always pleasant), but mostly i'm happy to read. i've been following the latest adventures, as he and graham settle into the new house. gardening, and organising, and cat adventures, new poems and pictures, all quite lovely. and sometimes, he just makes me nod and laugh.

On capitalisation, I have nothing whatever to add to the thousands, probably tens of thousands of learned and not-so-learned papers on the subject. Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. It may be that the finger I use for my shift key is getting to be erratic in my old age. Live with it.

not really sure how i tripped over this the other day...

local columnist Alex Beam has written Gracefully Insane: Life and Death Inside America's Premier Mental Hospital. (it's quite possible that the Powells newsletter is what tipped me to it, but i have this idea that there was another website, all dark browns, that was just about the book. of course, i can't find it now.) many famous people have stayed there, including Sylvia Plath and Ray Charles, altho i don't suppose that makes it much of a claim to fame to say i've also known people who've stayed there. in any event, the story interests me, and i may have to pop out at lunch and pick up a copy.
